What You'll Learn

Surface Preparation

Explore practical surface-preparation techniques for tiling projects. This hands-on session helps participants better understand how to create a suitable foundation for their personal tiling projects.

Adhesive Application

Practise applying adhesive accurately using a specially selected training product that provides more working time. This allows participants to focus on spreading, coverage and technique without the pressure of fast-setting adhesives.

Spacing and Alignment

Learn how to use spacers and basic alignment techniques to maintain consistent grout lines and keep your metro-style subway tiles level, evenly spaced and neatly aligned throughout your project.

Cutting Tiles Accurately

Learn how to use manual and electric tile cutters to make neat, accurate cuts around corners, outlets and edges for a well-finished personal tiling project.

Grouting and Finishing

Learn how to apply grout evenly, clean the tile surface and complete the finishing touches that help create a neat and polished kitchen backsplash.

Clean-up and Reuse

Learn how to clean and maintain tools properly, organise your workspace and manage surplus materials responsibly.

What You'll Expect

ASBC courses are practical, hands-on training sessions designed to help you build confidence using tools, materials and techniques in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

You will work in a dedicated training bay assigned exclusively to you, with your own set of tools, while receiving guidance and demonstrations from an experienced instructor.

Class sizes are kept small.

Course hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m

Cancellations, transfers and refunds are subject to the ASBC Refund and Cancellation Policy accepted during booking.

Most of the session will involve standing, measuring, cutting, preparing materials and completing practical tasks.

No previous experience is required.

Some activities may create dust, noise or vibration. Safety instructions must be followed at all times, and the appropriate protective equipment must be worn.

Tools, training materials and personal protective equipment required for practical activities will be provided unless otherwise stated.

Please wear comfortable, older clothing that you do not mind getting dusty or marked.

The course is delivered in a supervised training environment using practice surfaces and materials

Closed-toe, flat and secure footwear must be worn. Sandals, open-toe shoes and high heels are not permitted in the workshop.

Long hair must be tied back, and loose clothing or jewellery may need to be secured or removed before using tools.
