Tiling

That kitchen backsplash or flooring may have been sitting unfinished for longer than you would like to admit. Perhaps you received a contractor quote that made you close the laptop, or you tried watching online videos but still did not feel confident enough to start.
Tiling can look straightforward until you are standing in front of your own wall with unfamiliar tools, carefully selected tiles and questions about layout, cutting and grout lines.

At ASBC, our hands-on tiling workshops are designed to help homeowners and DIY enthusiasts take away some of that uncertainty. In a supervised workshop environment, you will work with real tools and materials while practising how to plan a layout, measure accurately, make tile cuts, apply adhesive, set tiles and complete the finishing touches.
From kitchen backsplashes to wall and floor tiling projects, our workshops give you the opportunity to build practical experience before approaching your own home-improvement projects.

Whether you are new to tiling or looking to expand your DIY confidence, you will gain a clearer understanding of the process, the tools involved and the techniques that can help you achieve a neat, well-finished result.

Why Our Wall Tiling Workshops Run Two Full Days

Tiling isn’t a task you can compress into a single afternoon and still see a real result — and we don’t try to. Adhesive needs time to set before you can grout over it, so a genuine tiling job naturally happens in two stages. Rather than rush that or skip it, we built the workshop around it, so you leave having practised the entire process a real job actually requires — not just the parts that fit in three hours.

Day One — Setting the Tile

Working across your own practice bay, you’ll set tile across three separate practice sections in sequence. The first section is where the learning curve shows — your lines may drift a little while you get a feel for the adhesive, the trowel, and keeping everything level. By the second section, your spacing and alignment noticeably tighten up, and you’ll carry that improvement into the third as the day wraps up.

Day Two — Grouting, Sealing & Finishing

Overnight, the adhesive fully cures — the same wait time a real installation requires. You’ll return to grout your first section hands-on, then move to the second as the morning continues. From there, the workshop moves into the finishing skills that actually make a tiling job look complete and hold up over time:

  • Caulking: sealing the joints and edges, the same skill you’d use years later to strip and redo caulk around a bathroom once it discolors or mildews.
  • Trim work: finishing the edges of the tiled area for a clean, complete look.

We close the day with proper workstation clean-up and teardown — and use it as a teaching moment of its own. If you ever need to remove and replace old tile at home, the very first steps are removing what’s there and preparing the surface properly before anything new goes on. Doing your own clean-up at the end gives you a practical sense of that process in reverse.

“By the end of two days, you won’t just have practised setting tile — you’ll have gone through the full sequence a real tiling project involves: prep, set, cure, grout, seal, and finish.”
